A vacation to the Jersey Shore typically entails beaches, boardwalks, and plenty of time outside. But if it’s a stormy afternoon or you’ve gotten too much sun, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the great indoors! At Hot Sand in Asbury Park, visitors can have a one-of-a-kind experience rain or shine. This public glassblowing studio was founded in 2007 and was the first of its kind in New Jersey. Today, the studio offers pre-made pieces as well as workshops and walk-in activities. Here are some of our favorite things to do there.

What You’ll See at Hot Sand in Asbury Park
One of the most exciting parts about visiting Hot Sand is that you can create your own unique glass piece to take home with you. Choose from a variety of fun objects on the walk-in menu, such as drinking glasses, paperweights, ornaments, vases, and more. The gallery’s artists will guide you in the 15 to 30-minute introductory glassblowing experience. Note: Children must be 9 years or older to enter the Hot Shop.
Reservations are not needed for activities at Hot Sand, however, all walk-ins are subject to availability and wait times. We highly suggest making a reservation in the summer as it is one of the busiest times of the year.
If you’re visiting the Jersey Shore with little ones, you’re in luck! Hot Sand offers a number of activities for visitors of all ages. Some of our favorites include:
Fun for children and adults alike, QuickCasts make the perfect keepsake. Simply press your imprint into a sandbox and an experienced artist will pour hot molten glass over the box to capturing the imprint. Your piece is then placed in an annealer to cool for up to seven days. You can pick up your QuickCast in person or have it shipped.
A SunTile is a fused glass collage that comes together as a beautiful memento. Arrange pre-cut pieces of colored glass onto one of the studio’s clear squares, and they’ll melt your collage into a colorful tile. You can make everything from geometric designs to your favorite figures.
Tips For Your Trip
When visiting Hot Sand, we recommend wearing comfortable, breathable clothing. Closed-toe shoes are required for all Hot Shop activities, and safety glasses are provided. If you’re visiting in the summer, consider bringing a bottle of water. It can get very warm with the furnace and equipment are running!
