Our Five Favorite Golf Courses on the Jersey Shore
Twisted Dune Golf Club
Twisted Dune Golf Club combines casual and cutting edge for an entertaining round of golf. The links-style course is reminiscent of traditional Scottish courses. Staying between the seagrass is challenging enough to keep avid players engaged, and as long as you see the deep ravines and sandy traps for what they are (a beautiful addition to the landscape!) you’ll be sure to avoid them as hazards. The club’s BYOB policy is popular with locals and saves you a few dollars on your golf excursion.
Twisted Dunes is in Egg Harbor Township, about an hour south of The Ocean View Inn and Ocean Plaza Hotel. The drive down offers plenty of unique dining options and shopping. After you’ve finished your round, head to the beach for panoramic views of the Atlantic.
Hominy Hills Golf Course
The laid-back Hominy Hills Golf Course is your best option for a stress-relieving ride around the links. The course is easily walkable, or you can grab a cart if you’re looking to get back by lunchtime. It’s a part of the Monmouth County Park System and is well maintained.
Hominy Hills boasts large greens and wide fairways. And, it’s just 15 miles inland from our properties in Ocean Grove! Book a tee time after 3 p.m. to score the best deals.
Shore Gate Golf Club
Shore Gate Golf Club is one of South Jersey’s newest and most popular courses. The par-72 course was named one of the “Top Ten Public Golf Courses in America” and earned 4.5 out of 5 stars in Golf Digest. The course is pristinely maintained, and while the club doesn’t offer much in the way of food or drink, most scratch players prefer the golf-minded environment. It’s a little over an hour drive to the club from Ocean Grove, but Shore Gate is a course that golfers won’t want to miss.
Pro tip: Play up a tee box. The course is long, and moving up creates exciting new hazards that will improve your game.
Forge Pond Golf Course
Just 25 minutes south of Ocean Grove is Forge Pond Golf Course. If you’re looking for a quick round at a well-maintained course, look no further than Forge Pond. The par-60 course is a favorite of Jersey Shore locals who want to get in nine holes before the sun sets on the Atlantic. The hidden bunkers and small ponds make for a fun and exciting round in Brick Township.
Sea Oaks Country Club
Intricately designed by golf architect Ray Hearn, Sea Oaks Golf Club boasts an 18-hole championship golf course. The club includes premier practice facilities along with a large, elegantly designed clubhouse.
You’ll have to travel about 50 minutes south of Neptune Township down the coast, but you’ll want to make a day out of it. Fill up a bucket of balls in the morning, grab lunch at the grille when you get to the clubhouse, and savor a chef-inspired dinner in the stately dining room before heading back to Ocean Grove.
